Frequently Asked Questions

  • Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) is a designation with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). RCCs have a minimum of a master’s degree, a minimum of 150 hours of clinical supervision and must adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct and Standards of Clinical Practice.

  • This means I will not discuss any of your traumatic experiences until I get to know you more and have a good sense of your support system and coping strategies for when you are not in session. Consent is of the utmost importance, and we will not move forward with any topics or treatment plans without your consent.

  • A treatment plan is a contract that is established between the counsellor and client which takes into account your history, current struggles and therapeutic goals. To be as efficient as possible, I request you complete a pre-assessment questionnaire before attending your first session. This will be reviewed during your first session, where we will work together to review your history and current situation to establish a starting point for your treatment goals. This can take up to 2 sessions depending on the individual. A good assessment and treatment plan is more likely to help you achieve the goals you are seeking. A treatment plan can be revised at any time. For example, Skylar was recently diagnosed with Adult ADHD at the age of 30. They were able to provide me with their assessment for review, which we discussed for the first 30 minutes of the session. The second half of the session is focused on what brought Skylar to seek counselling. ex) Skylar has been struggling with completing their master’s thesis in Engineering and is also having a hard time maintaining a daily schedule of healthy eating, exercise and sleep. Skylar would like to start with four sessions. Session one of treatment will review time management. Session two will review unhelpful beliefs concerning time and routines. Session three will review Skylar’s values and ways to offer self-compassion. Session four will review Skylar’s past experience of not meeting expectations and explore ways they can cope when these feelings get in their way of keeping to their education and/or self-care goal. If time permits, Skylar will be provided with an exercise to take home and work on until they book their next session.

  • I am trained to treat all mental health disorders; I prefer to focus on ADHD first. I can make suggestions on further areas you may want to explore and give you suggestions on resources for further support.

  • Unfortunately, I am not set up for such funding opportunities at this time.
